In Praise of Harper Lee

To Kill a Mockingbird has been staple in my board, taught in English classes for decades. I fell in love with Scout as a young woman and have never lost my respect for author Harper Lee’s gifted writing skills. As an English teacher, I have shared my passion for this timeless tale many times, tearing up every time Scout takes Boo Radley’s hand (spoiler alert!) at the end.

The legacy of Harper Lee will live on in my family as my second granddaughter bears her name.

Tonight, I send a prayer of gratitude to the soul who inspired so many.

Good night, Harper Lee.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
