The plan is to go fishing off the pier at Rockport Beach. I load up my walker for the journey out over the water, anticipating a day of action shots – immortalizing the excursion as I’m known to do. The early morning rain clouds are dissipating and a swarm of Black Skimmers parades overhead as we make our way. Dolphin fins cruise by the end of the dock. I’m excited.
A pipe runs just adjacent to the boardwalk and I note the build up of algae and crustaceans. Oyster beds.
The fishermen are getting lots of nibbles and going through quite a bit of bait without any success, so I continue my study of the ocean life within reach, fascinated by the shapes and textures. Where the pipe ends, wooden posts line up. In this moment, the salty water laps over the top of the posts and I snap a shot. The fuzzy green interspersed with sharp, bubble-like shells, clinging to the wooden structure makes for an interesting study.
The clouds have moved to the periphery, and the fullness of the noon day sun beats down. Dolphins glide by but I am too blinded to capture their passage. The fishermen, are mumbling about calling it a day, when I notice new movement along the beds.
Turns out the only catch of the day is mine: a lone sheepshead grazing the mossy banks.
Then, as we slowly drive away from the beach, I note another lone figure standing at the edge of a salt pool – a redhead duck.
What an unexpected, and marvellous day it’s been.

Oh I would have enjoyed that outing, especially since it is in the -20’s here! I have to think you had the best catches of the day all round! I love the transition of above water to below water on shot of the wooden post.
