Green Is A Novice

I catch myself playing that soul-stripping game of comparison, and come up feeling dreadfully inadequate.

My writing is lacking, my photography sucks, and it’s an embarrassment to self that I even post my art. Not actually – but this is the fallout from comparison.

I need to turn this thinking around: I am blessed to have the opportunity to create. Writing, photography, and art are an injection of vitality. How fortunate am I to be able to mingle and learn from those who have mastered the art. Everyday I am filled with inspiration.

Green, the focus of this week’s challenge, is also the colour associated with being a beginner. It is also the colour for “go”. So I am green as a novice and ready to grow. A wonderful place to be in.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. In her inspiring “If You Want To Write,” Brenda Ueland tells us not to compare ourselves to others. …”since you are like no other being ever created since the beginning of Time, you are incomparable.” I think this applies to any creative endeavor.
