Lost and Found

Fallen limbs and pathless woods
no obstacle for a wild child
left to her own devices,
searching for a self.

Only with age, and sprouting
curves, did I learn to be afraid
of shadows, that the woods
equated with wolves and lurking

And that abandoned places
house evil – held captive there
just this side of adolescence –
lost all that innocence gifts

Still I go to the woods –
stick to the well worn paths –
like to reminisce about old times,
invite that wild child along.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

      1. I totally agree! I’ve lived parallel lives since I was 10–the internal one was the safe place, buffer against the hideousness of the external.

      2. I think I remembered that from past discussions–it’s a gift to be able to imagine something/somewhere/someone else.

      1. V.J., today someone gave a like to a poem I wrote awhile back in response to one of Helene’s challenges and I noticed the photo prompt I pasted to that page disappeared. So I clicked on the link to her website and it said that the website could not be found. I know she was having health problems but I did not know she closed her website. Have you heard from her? Do you know how she is doing? I hope she is ok. Deborah
