V.J.’s Weekly Challenge #84: sun

Despite Ric’s protest that the light is not good, I take the camera and drive to the river. It’s February, traditionally a sunless month. I need to get out.

The sky is heavy and grey, clouds undefinable. Still, the sun makes his presence known, as if he too is tired of the somber mood. I pull over to take a photo.

A large bird flies overhead – an eagle. Flocks of Canada Geese line the river banks, Mallards among them. A pair of Common Mergansers float past.

I take very few pictures, content to feel the cool air on my face, offering a silent prayer to the sun that he stay strong, keep persisting.

Soon these trees will be ripe with buds and the thrill of migrating birds. I can wait.

Let’s evoke the power of the sun this week, with images, poems, and stories to warm us up.

Look forward to your responses.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
