V.J.’s Weekly Challenge #92: behind

“Behind every criticism is a wish.”
Esther Perel

The quotation comes from Esther Perel’s podcast “Where Should We Begin?” which currently features couples in lockdown. Something about the words resonates with me, although I’m not immediately able to explain why.

I have witnessed how anger masks disappointment, frustration, or even grief, but criticism. I hadn’t thought of criticism masking a wish. This calls for more introspection.

Meanwhile, I invite you to join me this week in considering how the concept of ‘behind’ plays out in your own life. I present one interpretation of the word, and naturally, there are many others.

Look forward to your responses.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
