VJ’s Weekly Challenge #111: stuff happens

“Just hang in till after the move,” I kept pleading with my body. Unrealistic in hindsight. Six o’clock, the morning before the move, I wake Ric with a request to drive me to the hospital. Turns out you can’t just pack chronic illness in a box and unpack it when convenient.

While they pumped fluids into me and awaited the results of testing, Ric decided to carry on with his to do list, pushing his own limits. He ended up in ER too. Guess it was a two-for-one day. Or a three-for week, as our son, who came to help us, ending up needing stitches when the heavy base he was carrying jumped back and punched him.

Stuff happens.

I read once (think it was Caroline Myss) that obstacles are the universe’s way of letting you know you are on the right track. We carry on; he with a broken foot and me fuelled by antibiotics. Guess this is the right path!

Oh, and did I mention, I am scheduled for surgery next week (minor), and he is booked for a total knee reconstruct at the end of the month?

Sigh….

Stuff happens to all of us. Let’s let that be the focus this week: not how rotten life can be, but how despite the bad, we pick ourselves up and keep going. You know: the everyday miracles.

To participate, publish a post on your site and then dropped a link below. All are welcome. Look forward to your responses.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Oh my gosh I can’t believe it! You had a trifecta 😳 I hope everyone is OK now and yes, you are right, the Universe has a way of warning us in the most bizarre ways and we don’t always understand the language. Wishing you all well VJ ☺️💕

  2. Oh my goodness, V.J. no, they were not the every day stuff that happens. It must be stressful with all that happened on your day of moving. You’re right, you can’t pack chronic illnesses and unpack them. Take your time to recover.

  3. Oh my goodness! That’s not the kind of excitement we wish for with a move…. Wishing you and the guys a speedy recovery. Just remember, you don’t have to get all the boxes unpacked at once. What you don’t get done today will still be there tomorrow. And yes, I know….that’s the problem. We always want everything to look great right away, but there’s nothing wrong with pacing yourself, dear friend. Sending hugs!

    1. Thanks Terri. We just want to find Ric’s slippers, lol. Actually, our kids came through and blitzed the unpacking and setting us up. Hooray for kids. I am going to concentrate on getting back in balance and then tackle the rest.

  4. Well, talk about terrible timing! The morning before the move! Perhaps all the “challenging stuff” is over with for a long while. Well, except for the upcoming surgeries. Always something. Take care!!

  5. VJ, good phrase, “pick yourself up.” We all get knocked down or stagger. We just need to pick ourselves up. A favorite poem of my mother was “Keep a going” which she could recite in its entirety. Keith
