Frivolous, giddy, flippant, lighthearted, silly….words I might never have used to describe myself. Ric is trying to rehabilitate me.
Take for example, an outing to replace one sketching pencil. The singles were sold out at our local art store, so I bought a whole set. It took quite a bit of convincing. The single pencils were a couple of dollars. The set cost $40. It seemed extravagant.
“Are you going to use them?” Ric asked me. I could tell he was feeling impatient.
“Well, yes…eventually.” I also had earned enough loyalty points for 30 % off.
Later, I raved at how much I like these new pencils.
“And to think, you almost didn’t buy them.”
Why do I do that to myself?” I thought. I’ve done that forever. Denied myself for fear of being frivolous.
I’m working on it. Hope you’ll join me this week, or at very least, have fun with the word.
To participate, create a post on your own site, and either leave a link here or pingback. Look forward to your responses.
This has been a real trip down memory lane to get to frivolous. I need to do that more often…going forward. Glad you got those pencils! 🙂

I totally understand the dilemma of being frivolous. I have the mindset of “Do I need it or do I want it”. If the two are prevalent, I will buy. Sometimes, I buy just for the heck of it, but those times are rare! So glad you got the pencils! 🙂

I suppose, although I wouldn’t yet consider myself an artist. More of a dabbler.

In my opinion, art supplies are never frivolous. Glad that you gave in and bought them for future reference. 🙂 I remember there was an easel I had my eye on years ago and regret not getting it now. It was a beauty! 🙂

That is a good opinion. Still, I struggle with spending money on me. Thanks Olga.

Oh, the “fear of being frivolous.” It is amazing how many things we don’t do as a result. With kids, I was reminded of the all the cheesy little trinkets we have bought in gift shops. Have you ever noticed how many museums, gardens, sites, etc. (and Cracker Barrel) end with an exit through or by the gift shop? Keith
