The Climb From Here

Ric is back in hospital. The infection is – for the moment – winning, having disabled his leg. An elevated blood pressure and difficulty breathing is what sent him back. He has fluid on the lungs. Two different medical teams are now following his case.

It feels as if the climb from here is monumental. They will remove the knee replacement, start a new round of drugs, and if successful, put in another. Ric thinks we’re looking at a three month challenge. He is trying to remain positive.

Ever since the onset of my disease, stairs have been an obstacle. Now Ric shares my pain. Symbolically, they convey the steep road ahead.

The stress of the past few weeks has taken its toll on my own well being. Your good wishes and prayers have been a ladder for our spirits. I am leaning on faith.

Cee’s Black and White Photo challenge is steps or ladders. The theme, for me, fit with our current situation. Tomorrow is a new day.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

I hope you are okay at home. If there’s any way I can help, let me know. Toronto is not too far away…

  3. An ongoing hospitalization = difficult steps to climb for sure. On many levels, not just Ric’s ailments. I hope the two of you can keep your eyes upward toward getting-there without meltdowns. My heart goes out to both of you. I am glad he’s getting the needed care.
