Old Dog, New Tricks

This old dog is determined to learn something new, so I’ve been practicing drawing faces. If nothing else, it’s fodder for laughter.

The featured image is me, sans lunettes. I ran it through a digital filter to de-emphasize the amateur quality. The drawing below is my husband from a photograph. When I showed it to him, he said: “Who’s that?” and then: “That’s not me; I know what I look like.”

When I showed it to the kids and grandkids, they immediately said: “Grumpa!”

I’m still laughing.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. These images are quite fab! I’m not sure what you mean by your processing, but the end result is a grabber. Very funny about your husband not seeing himself. We’re all that way to an extent , I suppose.

  2. I agree. You have another talent uncovered. I have been doing more art lately thanks to John Muir Laws (Nature Journal online) and a conference “Wild Wonders” I attended online last year. You might find nature journaling interesting. I do enjoy your art!!

  3. Its a little hard to read the black text on this greenish background. I like the jail teardrop tattoos on the first one, don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time- yeah, don’t do it. 🕵️‍♂️
