Anxiety burnsan acidic devouring confidence impaled –mind wanders to childhood dreamsuncovers fear’s origin. (Tuesdays, I borrow from Twitter @Vjknutson. I came across this tanka written in May/21 that seemed to match with the image I recently posted on my other blog. I decided to pair them here.)

I find it difficult to just sit and be. I find my routines help me stay focused and keep my mind off what is going on in the world. Reading blogs is a godsend, IMO.

Routine is helpful, Eugi. Some days I just feel that something else needs room.

I think you should try, V.J.
(Would it be cheating to sit in a place from which you could look at birds?) š

Love this, VJ! I have tried and nothing happened, so these days I often hit pause and relax.

I find it difficult as well to just sit and be. I was telling my husband last night that I’m afraid I don’t have enough life ahead of me to write everything I want to write.

I feel like that some days too, Liz. There is a certain urgency that comes with age, apparently.

…..like you, I take enormous comfort in life’s little routines, my inner healing drawing on all their normalcy and sameness, so that each day is shaped not by past violences but rather by the flow of prepping meals, dog walking, gardening, painting watercolours, all in the name of convincing myself that there’s peace in the present, if only I’ll just thrill over its stillness and absence of what was before so very disturbing. So, yes, give me another carrot to peel, or an email to reply to….or a lovely VJ posting! Lance

Thanks for the encouragement Lance. You are right – the simple, ongoing tasks do maintain calm.
