Older Than Old

When I was ten, my family travelled to England to visit my father’s family. Grandmother gifted us this odd looking vase, something she claimed to be over a hundred years old. I inherited it when my mother went into a nursing home. Always a conversation piece.

This 1,000 year-old tree continues to thrive on Goose Island State Park in Texas. Is there a word for something older than an antique?

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I’ve got an old pot that came from my Nan. The lid and legs were broken and badly repaired quite a few times. My brother and I used to play frisbee in the living room when our parents were out! I still love that old battered pot.
