I don’t know enough about birds to know what is rare for our area, but I do know that we have a few visitors who stop by on their way elsewhere – the window to see them short.

Tundra Swans
Hooded Merganser
Cape May Warbler (?)

For Bird Weekly’s challenge: Rare Birds. The featured image is a pair of wood ducks. While they did stick around and have babies in our area, they were elusive to photograph. Note: When I see a bird new to me, I get so excited and ruin the photo, lol.

  1. Fabulous photographs, I love swans and ducks and as a species they are not rare where I live we have both at the caravan park we have a caravan and regularly see them up close but I have never seen either of them 🙂

  4. The tundra swans photo is so pretty, with the white of the swans against the light blue water. I love the color pallete of the Cape May Warbler photo. Aside from that, what immediately popped into my mind when I saw the bird was the song “Shake a Tail Feather.”

  5. Great set of rarities. I’ve never seen the Tundra Swan. The Wood Ducks are a hit & miss. Some years we get them & some years we don’t see any. I saw a couple in Tampa – like a glimpse before they swam into cover along the Hillsborough River in January. No photo! I love Cape May Warbler. I have a pic of it somewhere from a couple of years ago. We didn’t see it this year during migration. Hooded Merganser are popular here during migration. Always see them. Fantastic post! 🙂

    1. Thanks Lisa. The swans were a fluke find – they had stopped at a gravel pit nearby and I just happened to glance over and see them. Good to hear I’m not the only one having trouble capturing the wood ducks.
