Today is the day to leave, the 2:30 am text read; I’m letting my son sleep in, last day in our home.
The message came from Kyiv. I had connected with the mom the day before. Bombing around them had finally convinced her to flee.
Stay safe and keep in touch when you can.
I’m volunteering with a local grassroots effort to help displaced Ukrainians find hosts and jobs in our area. I signed on after connecting with the family we will be hosting.
Our family completed their biometrics this week, the last step before getting approved to travel. I’ll be relieved when they are safely nestled in our home.
Meantime, the mom from Kyiv made it to Warsaw. She has been matched with a host family here and a job. Her son will be enrolled at the local college.
The wheels of human kindness are hard at work.
If I am absent from reading and commenting, please excuse me.
I’ll leave you with a link to the children’s choir of Kyiv: Choir of the Earth. Please listen and pass it on.
