Cee’s Midweek Madness Photo challenge is any word with the letter ‘q’ – a good opportunity to showcase squirrels.
We have grey and black squirrels, and red ones, which are smaller. They are a source of amusement around here, always keeping Ric on his toes, trying to keep them off the bird feeders. My sister’s dog caught one the other day, which caused a flurry of panic. Eventually they negotiated the squirrel’s release. Another friend, detests them, so traps them and drives miles from her home to release them. She told me mid-summer that she had removed seventeen from her yard. I can’t help but wonder if they don’t find their way back.
No matter what the relationship to these quick moving, acrobats, they manage to make someone ‘squirrely”. My dogs resemble that statement.

We love to watch squirrels scurry up and down the trees. They are pure entertainment. I’ve never seen a black squirrel.

That’s interesting, Eugi. They are so common here, and the more aggressive of the species. Their physical skills are amusing.

They are very tame here—I’ve seen them sneak up to someone’s bag sitting next to them on a bench and take things right out of it. (K)

They are lots of fun to watch especially this time of year when they store things under the ground in the backyard for the winter. I don’t know how they will retrieve what they stored under 2 or 3 feet of snow! lol.

As annoying as they can be (they ate all my corn this year), I’d miss their antics if they weren’t around. We can’t always pick and choose our neighbours. Great photos.

Do people ever keep them as pets? (Weird question I know, but I am curious, as some people here keep kangaroo joeys and other native creatures as pets at times)

I haven’t heard of keeping squirrels as pets. Chipmunks though.

I don’t know. They are more like mice with long tails and stripes. They are very cute and also tameable.

Hahaha. A friend who came from elsewhere, saw one recently, and was surprised how little they were because of the cartoon representations.
