“Do you like cornflowers?” I was certain I heard the gardener say. “Very much!” I replied excitedly envisioning a sea of blue amongst the velvet violets of bearded irises and buttery yellow of day-lilies. “What are these?” I asked when the job was done, pointing to odd looking flowers, whose centers over-powered the drooping petals.
