A year ago, as we sold off the rest of the contents of our house, I was both excited and wary about the path we had chosen. Two-and-a-half years confined to a bed had stripped me of the ability to dream, but my husband was not about to give up.
“I will put wheels on the bedroom and drive you across country!” he declared, and that is what he did.
We left mid November, after the first snow of the season has descended, and I wrapped myself in blankets, and propped up with pillows, and watched with disbelief as the scenery around me changed. Six months we travelled, and each day was a celebration.
From the nostalgia of Beale Street in Memphis and then westward through Arkansas, and Texas, every stop along the way filled with wonder.
New Mexico’s colours and welcoming vibe made me sad we couldn’t stay longer, but there was much to see, and I wanted to take it all in. Through Arizona, and California, then Oregon, and Washington State, I was wowed by the changing landscape, and the indescribable beauty. Our journey reached it pinnacle on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where we celebrated yet again in a floating dock off Protection Island. (Featured Image).

This is amazing I will certainly come and visit again. Be brave and cry a little if need be. But I can see you focus on being positive and thankful. Enjoy the actual adventures and adventures of the imagination

What a wonderful journey! My parents did something similar when they both retired. We didn’t see them for three months. 🙂 You will always cherish the memories of this trip. Thanks for joining the challenge!

“wheels on the bedroom” – I think that is one of the sweetest things I have ever heard. You are very lucky to have such a sensitive and caring husband. I think HE is a wonder as much as your wonderful travels!

For thirteen years, Bob and I traveled via motor home to do arts and crafts show. One year we went all the way to Boston. I loved every minute of it. I had a jeweler’s bench fashioned out of the engine cover so I could work on my jewelry. He actually preferred to drive most of the time. It was heaven.

It is such heaven. Indescribable. You were lucky to have been able to do it for so long. Not sure about us yet, but we keep planning.

It was so sweet of your husband to plan that trip. Were you recuperating from an illness? I somehow got that idea that he’d done it as an easy means of travel.

I have ME, a disease which affects all systems in the body, characterized by exhaustion after exertion. It was severe for the first 21/2 years, which limited my ability to do anymore than basic self care. As I have improved, he has looked for ways to normalize our life without putting me into relapse.
