The Call That Never Happened

I called you.
That one time.
Poured my heart out…
such despair.

I called you.
You weren’t there.
Left a message –
garbled words
rushed to beat
inevitable beep.

Regret immediate
then panic
ineradicable
the outpouring
of a lonely heart
fantasizing.

I called you.
You didn’t answer.
You never called back.

Thank you for that.

This week, I challenged us to think about phone calls that changed the course of our lives (fictional or non). Such good responses. Please have a read if you haven’t already:

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
