VJ’s Weekly Challenge: nesting

“Grandma, I had a great day at school! We learned about birds!”

Four-year-old August is as passionate about birds as I am. “What did you learn?” I ask.

“Birds will use just about anything to build their nests, even shoe laces.” Her eyes are wide and her expression radiates amusement.

Every morning this week, a large crow has worked diligently to prune twigs from a tree outside my window, fussily discarding the ones that won’t work, and flying off with those that measure up. I call August to let her know.

“That’s so cool!” she replies.

The COVID lockdown has been a boost for the restoration trades. New furniture, hardware, flooring, and so on are hard to come by. Everyone has the same idea: nesting.

This week share your experience of nesting, through story, verse, photos, or other. Create a post and link back here, or leave a comment below. As always, the word nesting does not have to appear in the post, but the theme should be apparent. Look forward to your responses.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
