The dogs are quick to warn me about any new visitors to the backyard. Accustomed to squirrels and rabbits, and the multitude of birds, they seldom pay attention to those. A sharp yelp! yelp! usually means “Mom, grab your camera! Come quick!”
The groundhog usually hangs around in the summertime, but the chipmunks are a delightful new addition to our garden this year.

Wonderful capture of the chipmunk, VJ 🙂

We don’t have them but they sure look cute. Just consider that they are aerating the lawn 🙂

I never realized how much a ground hog looks like a beaver! When I first saw the picture that is what I thought it was.

Yes. Our Ukrainians friends got all excited thinking they’d seen a beaver, lol.

Great pictures! Thank goodness the dogs let you know without scaring the visitors away! 🙂

Well, sometimes they do. I have to be quick. Thanks Wynne.

VJ, the groundhog’s face is so easy to attribute human emotions to. Maybe that is why they were used in the Narnia books as the friendly helpers. Keith

I think that too, Keith. Same with the chipmunks. Easy to see how they inspired such tales.

Mr. Groundhog looks like a plump little fella and perhaps a wee bit self-satisfied? The chipmunk looks like he’s posing for you, with his little hands clasped.

I think you are right about him being self-satisfied. Not in a hurry to scoot away, for sure. I love the little chipmunks.

I love the little chipmunks, too. My husband doesn’t like how they dig holes in the lawn.
