Muskrat

Went to the river to clear my mind. It’s been a rough couple of weeks helping Ukrainians. Some, feeling they can’t make it in Canada, or missing family too much, have gone home. Worse than that, we uncovered human trafficking. One employment trafficking, and another procuring young women for the sex trade.

I have felt sick, helpless, and enraged. Authorities have been contacted, the victims are safe, and it is now out of my hands, but emotions take longer to heal, so here I am with camera in hand, contemplating stillness.

Until…the water rippled just down the way, and a unidentifiable blob started to swim towards me, so rapt in his own mission, he didn’t see me until the last minute when he disappeared again.

Muskrat love?

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. That is so distressing to hear that there are those taking horrible advantage of refugees like that! I know it happens all over, but… 😡

Muskrats, though. A whole other thing. Fun to watch.

    1. The hardest part for me to digest was that it was a husband and wife with two children who were luring the young women – so unsuspecting. The devil wears many disguises. Thanks Eilene

  2. Glad to hear the victims are safe and you have time and the muskrat love to help you recover. Sometimes the ‘world is too much with us’.
