It’s springtime, and love is in the air, even for the mallards. This pair idled by, and while I tend not to photograph mallards, I bowed to their insistence.

Don’t fall for his apparent devotion, as soon as she gives birth, he’ll be off and other males will impose themselves on her, at risk to the children. It’s messy business with male mallards. Not ducky, at all.

I still take photos of mallards, especially when their feathers shimmer in the sun.

Oh! I didn’t know that about male mallards.

I discovered it after a pair of ducks nested near our house. Couldn’t understand why there was a line up of males after eggs.
