Goldfinch flock to our bird feeders, drawn by whatever magic seed my husband puts out for them. In the wild, I hear their sweet song, but can’t always spot them. These photos were taken in the peak of summer and amazingly the bright yellow of the bird works as camouflage in the bright green foliage.

Your post has reminded me to read The goldfinch by Donna Tart, which has been sitting in my reading pile for about a year now! Problem is, it’s just so doorstop thick…

Incredible how camouflaged that bright yellow is. Beautiful.

They are pretty birds. We get them in the summer mostly. I see them sometimes balancing on lettuce leaves picking at them.

They are so sweet. We get them all year long, but their winter coats aren’t as spectacular.

We plant sunflowers in the veggie garden just for them. In the fall it is so much fun watching, and listening to them.

I always think it’s a canary that escaped somehow… We see them too in our birches. 💛

Lol. A lot of escaped canaries…there might be something in that.

They are darling…and they were my mother-in-law’s favorite birds…I see them and think of her. Thanks for that, VJ. 🥰
