Broadening my focus

I was aiming for the bird, my fingers wrapped around the lens, ready to zoom in, when the scene spoke to me.

“Sometimes”, I reminded myself, “you need to look at the larger picture.”

The larger picture, in this case, was stunning, almost as if the sky had a message it didn’t want me to miss.

It’s so easy to zoom in on the predators these days – see what is wrong with the world – and miss the rest. I am driving myself crazy by following all the bad news that I cannot see the gathering storm – a perfect storm of like minds and hearts, rising up against the current nonsense.

We live in a universe of order and compassion, one of my teachers used to say. Is this what the sky is telling me? Breathe and stay aware.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Yes, it is important to maintain our equilibrium. The media will always harp on all the bad news and minimize the good. But we know that there is more compassion in the world than evil. We see it every day.

  2. VJ this is a much needed reminder. Thank you! I am with you it gets hard to see that there are good things happening when I focus on the news and world events. It is scary, but you are right there are like minded people out there. Such a wonderful post.
