Scoundrels in the Garden

Clearly conspiratorial, these two young groundhogs have been menacing our vegetable garden and now are plotting to defy gravity apparently – one as the lookout and the other, well:

I did look it up and they are part of the squirrel family. A new one for me.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. They’re so cute! We have some of the little rascals too. We use horse troughs for our garden, so the plants are a couple of feet off the ground, but at least one of them is able to stretch up and grab the sides of the container and climb in. It almost decimated our cucumber vines one time, and another, we saw him climbing in so we were able to scare him out before he could do any damage. They’re quite proficient climbers; we saw one at the top of our neighbor’s telephone pole once, probably scared up there by a dog.

      1. I’ve had good luck with the metal ones from Veggo. I also have some wooden ones, but they need reinforcement beyond what the instructions call for, but they are very nice.
