More Art Lessons

The second lesson was creating blind portraits. I have done this before and like this exercise so much, I have committed to doing one a day. These are from the course:

To do this exercise, look at yourself in a mirror, or gaze at a portrait of yourself. Glancing only once at the paper to get situated, draw the portrait. They are fun and can be touched up afterwards.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. These are great, VJ. Have been adding an additional element to blind contour self-portraits. With my non-dominant hand, I trace my features, usually starting with the nose, and then draw the blond contour with my dominant hand. I like your idea of doing one a day. I wonder if you can tell your mood from the variation of a day’s sketch. Interesting.

    1. Doing the touch blind portrait is very cool. We did that in class too, but I’d forgotten. I definitely can see something about my mood of the day in the drawings.

  2. I used to teach drawing, and contour drawing was always one of the favorite segments for my students. They are fun! And a great way to develop eye / hand coordination. 🙂 Happy Sunday, VJ. It will be Thanksgiving soon. I’m missing home.
