Love Vs. Fear

The woman in the video I’m watching says that she is in support of the cuts to Medicaid, claiming that she has been paying for healthcare for illegals. I cringe.

There is so much wrong with this statement, but the point that strikes me the deepest is the lack of humanity. I don’t know how to respond to people who base their opinions on ignorance and prejudice.

Then, I see a contrasting video, in which the speaker is crying because he has set up a pantry on his front lawn for those not receiving their SNAP payments. Someone has anonymously donated money to help him buy further supplies. I am reminded that people are basically good, and there is still hope for humanity.

It feels as if the real struggle these days is a spiritual one – between the forces of love and fear. Love finds a way. Fear fuels insecurity and hate.

I will hold out for love to win.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I was happy to help a homeless woman, Myna, with cat dood yesterday. She gave me my last 5 kittens and I’ve had to tell her NO MORE, but I’m happy to help her in any way that I can!

I like telling about the time I was at a yard party, all of us drankin all day, and I gave a $20 to a passing homeless guy who asked. Others freaked out… “he’ll just use it for drugs or booze!” etc. First, hypocrital much? WE had used money for booze! Second, I told them, “That’s up to him. My choice is whether ot not to give him money. Once I do, it’s HIS money, and he can do what he wants!!

I miss believing we were a charitable country.

  2. I believe that love will win too. This reminds me of a quote from Gandhi, “When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.”

  3. It is hard to respond to those who base their views on prejudice and ignorance. The second scenario, I like to believe is the majority of humanity. The results of the democratic wins in the States this morning makes me feel hopeful for humanity.
