Deck the Halls

I dress up for the occasion, happy that the day has finally come to trim the tree. Then, after fluffing out the branches (our tree is artificial as I’m allergic to the real ones), I am exhausted. The nature of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.

No worries, though, our Ukrainian roommate is eager to help and in no time at all the tree is up and we have added little touches throughout the house.

I’m usually bah Humbug, but this year I’ve made a commitment to good cheer. It’s a good, or should I say, festive start.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. You’re ahead of the game! I’m still contemplating when I might possibly find the energy to get the tree from the barn and set it up, put lights outdoors, etc. Your decorating is cozy and comforting.
