V.J.’s Weekly Challenge #91: transported

“I’ve heard enough of the news!”

Ric hands me the remote. “Find what you’d rather watch.”

I scroll through the guide but nothing suits me. I am antsy and my stomach hurts. Normally, I like to sit in quiet but today I need noise to shut out my thoughts. News about COVID_19 is overwhelming.

I settle on a music channel playing flashbacks from the 70’s.

I take out my sketch book and begin to draw and find myself singing along. Memories flash through my mind and I am transported to another time: road trips in my friend’s ’67 Camaro; Saturday nights sneaking into the disco underage; eating hot fudge sundaes at the Dairy Queen.

People I hadn’t thought about in ages come to mind, and I smile to think of what we wore, and how carefree we were. For an hour or so I am able to forget – my mind and body relax.

In the midst of chaos, what transports you to simpler times? Naturally, this prompt has more than one meaning, and you are in no way restricted to my interpretation.

Create a post on your blog and link it back here. Look forward to your posts.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Truly an escape to something older and near to heart sometimes proves so powerful. I am glad it did that for you and also gave birth to this prompt. I will post my take soon. Lots of love!
