Changes

After 7 weeks of respiratory illness, I think I’m finally on the mend.

The family of refugees we’ve been hosting signed their first lease yesterday, and will be moving December 1st. Although hubby and I agreed that we wouldn’t host another family, we have committed to a single woman, my age, who we’ll take in in January.

In Ukraine, many struggle with intermittent or no electricity. They cook over fires in the street. I don’t know how they stay warm at night. Communication is also thwarted, as wifi is affected. Requests to come to Canada increase. In some instances, as one woman tells me, they are learning to live with daily air raid sirens.

These photos are from my last outing. As of two days ago, all is covered with snow. The one constant in life: change.

Hope you are all well.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I’m very glad to hear that you’re on the mend, VJ. I appreciate that you’re continuing to raise awareness of how the war in Ukraine is affecting the ordinary citizens of the country. The focus of the war news now seems to be on the politicians and the political landscape.
