Leading up to my mother’s death, I locked myself away in the art room and painted with a fervour. Despite the darkness I was feeling, my paintings came out bright – a testament to her nature, I decided.

Growing with gratitude for life's challenges

I’m so sorry for your mom’s passing.
Art therapy is so great. It really helps because we enter flow state and get to escape bad feelings for a while. Creating is just magical.

Like your statement “Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit – a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.” Thanks for sharing

I can relate to your story because I got into painting after I lost my father, and have been painting ever since. I’m now a strong advocate for art therapy and believe others should try it.

Art is incredible therapy. I think it speaks to our basic core – that which has no words. Thanks for dropping by, and nice to meet you

I love the strong, vibrant colors. As you suggested, your subconscious likely associated these attributes with your mother.
I am sorry for your loss.

That’s a beautiful way to honor your mother. Reminds me of how much my mother loved plants.

I love all that lush color! How lucky you are to have art as an outlet for both creativity and processing life. The second painting is particularly intriguing…

Thanks Susan. There is a definite feminine quality about the second piece, lol.

It was interesting – but mom loved bright colours – I guess that is what motivated me.
