Can’t Breathe

He put the people in place to undermine human rights, and give him immunity from crimes.

He promised to end free and fair elections.

He is arming himself with those who will do his bidding.

America was warned of the danger.

From up here in Canada, I wonder if this is how Rome’s neighbours felt before the fall.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Im disgusted, but not in the least surprised by the outcome, VJ. America has embraced hate and greed for quite a number of years now. Trump embodies grift and corruption and his followers eat it up. It’s a mass hysteria of the worst sort. A sad day.

    1. I have never understood the need for such hate, Eilene. Among the many things I fear from this result is that he plans to axe Federal Education, ensuring that his base remain ‘in the dark’. Education is so key to breaking out of these destructive modes.

      1. Dumbing down the electorate has been a Republican project for a long time. Trump loves his non-critical-thinking supporters. What they want is lower prices. What they will get will be the opposite.

  2. I am Canadian also and some of us up here have followed the rhetoric of the president-elect and his opponent closely. I can’t understand why his views, actions and speech are acceptable to those who voted for him. It is a very disappointing outcome.

      1. It sounds like some people want a change, but I am not happy with the things the alternative is saying. He is very negative and I have not heard any new ideas to address what he sees as the problems. It sounds so familiar.

    1. Sadly, what happens in the US affects life in Canada. As neighbours, we have trade agreements and depend on each other in many ways. Trumpism has infiltrated our borders. The only saving grace is that our form of democracy has more checks and balances. A leader does not have the same freedoms.

    1. I am sick too, and I’m not American. I keep thinking of my father, who would remind me that one door closes, so another will open. Kamala and her supporters can’t stop now. There is so much more work to be done.

  3. I’m devastated. I can’t even begin to describe how lost I feel. My country is no longer my country. It feels worse than 2016.
