Our third Ukrainian/Canadian Christmas will take place this Sunday. Two hundred and forty guests have signed up. It’s just amazing how much our community has grown, not just in numbers, but as a whole.
My role as an ambassador – helping Ukrainians get started in Canada – has morphed into a support role. Our latest endeavour has been to create a homework club, dedicated to helping Ukrainian students with tasks that the parents are unable to complete due to language differences.
Up until recently, Lesia (the math professor that lives with us) and I have tutored high school students in our home. When the parents of the younger students reached out for help, I recognized we needed a better solution and the homework club was formed.
As with all these efforts, the rewards outweigh the effort. The children are eager to excel, which is a delight for the volunteers working with them, and the parents are delighted to have this opportunity to come together as a community once again.
You are doing such wonderful things for these immigrants. Maybe they will stay in Canada, but I hope their homeland will experience peace soon and maybe welcome some home.

Thanks Eilene. Most have applied for permanent residency. They are choosing peace. We all hope for an end to the war.

I am so blessed to be able to help. It’s a miracle really. I share because if I – a woman with limited energy and health- can help, so can others. Little gestures go a long way. Thanks Tanja.
