I signed up for a ten-day free painting course a while back. I compromised of 5 exercises and 5 zoom meetings to discuss the process. It was actually quite excellent.
Lesson 1 was to tape off two large pieces of paper, each into six sections. Then setting a timer to 30 minutes, painting on the first with only red, yellow, and blue, and black and white for colour mixing. The second was the same, only with three colours of your choice.
From there we chose our favourites from each and reflected on why.
The exercise was quite freeing, surprisingly. Setting a time limit dealt with the issue of knowing when to stop. Using limited colour palette, taught me to mix more. I tried different tools for applying paint and experimented with strokes.
An exercise I will repeat often I think, as a warm up.
You enjoying it is the best part! 🙂

What an interesting exercise. Amazing how limiting things makes us more aware!

That’s painting even I could do! (I’ve been thinking about taking painting lessons for a while now.)

These are delightful, VJ. I assume from the keywords that you used acrylics. I want to try this exercise. Thank you so very much for sharing. BTW, I especially like the color combination of the top painting. It really speaks to me and looks organic.

For some reason, your responses come through twice. This is acrylic, although she said watercolour or other could work too.

Thanks. I liked that one too, and yes, acrylic, although the exercise was meant for any medium
