To Travel or Not To Travel?

Friends are talking about summer plans for travel. It’s that time of the year. Ric and I exchange knowing glances. Travel is likely not in our future.

The Winter seems to have taken a toll on my mobility. I’ve been doing restorative yoga, and taking small walks to encourage my legs but every effort is only rewarded with further pain and resistance. I can’t imagine the added toll of being away from home where accessibility is a question mark.

So, we talk about past adventures and dream about where we might have gone.

The thing I do know about life, is it’s always full of surprises. Won’t put away the suitcases quite yet. At the very least, I can still dream.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I’m sorry to hear your mobility has taken a hit this winter, VJ. It can be so discouraging when it seems we’ve gone backwards, but hopefully, you’ll be able to get back to your baseline. I certainly understand not wanting to travel without knowing what you’re getting yourself into accessibility-wise. We’ve finally started taking some small trips from time to time, but when I say small, I’m talking within a couple of hours from home. That way, if things go downhill we can just head back home. I hope your pain and lack of mobility improve for you soon. Sending gentle hugs your way.

  2. It’s hard when your body (or like me – in my mind) sets limits your heart hasn’t agreed to yet. But I love that you’re still holding onto possibility, even if it looks different right now. Sometimes the smallest walks and quiet routines become their own kind of journey.
