Lives are built around the stories we are told. If we have any sense of creativity, at all, we will rewrite those stories to broaden the scope of possibility.
I told a former suitor once that I was not destined to be loved. It was the story I had been told growing up. Smarter than my older sisters and far less attractive, it seemed a given. Besides, I was in the midst of my second divorce at the time, surely proof that my fate was sealed.
My male friend looked at me oddly. “How can you say that,” he asked “when not one but two men have loved you enough to make you their wife?”
His comment stopped me short. I had never thought of it that way.
Sometimes, we need to examine the stories we are living by and give them a new twist.
I just did that twist in my last blog in resolving a friend ship issue with the introduction of a Haitian refugee. I hope you read.

Unlovable, right! He pegged it. Glad you could see the truth in his statement. We should all be so fortunate to find ways to see through those limiting tales.

So often the cliche is true: we can’t see the forest for the trees. (K)

Thanks Liz. So difficult to see where we need to rewrite though.
