To contemplate is to look at shadows.
– Victor Hugo
A child, when first encountering its shadow, might at first feel fear. Later, she will experience fascination as she discovers that shadows stretch and play at her command.
Carl Jung suggests that the shadow is representative of those parts of self that are suppressed and typically projected onto others. While the inference is that these parts of self are negative, in most cases, shining light on the shadow self is imperative to achieving wholeness.
Who looks outside, dreams;
who looks inside; awakes.
– Carl Jung
Of course, the word ‘shadow’ can have different meanings. It might be the result of object blocking light, or it might have the metaphoric sense of ‘looming’. We use ‘shadow’ to describe someone who follows too closely, or to indicate mood.
This week, see where shadows lead you. I’m already on the hunt for photographs, and I think it might be interesting if I gave voice to a few shadows. I have faith in your creative capacity to find your own interpretations.
I look forward to your posts.
I’ll leave you with this video of Lindsey Stirling, performing Shadows, for further inspiration:

https://theresaly520.wordpress.com/2018/09/30/palettes-of-life/ Enjoyed Lindsey Sterling’s performance. As I was reading your prompt, I thought of the story of the shadows in the allegory of Plato’s Cave which represented an illusion of reality. Illusions and shadows will still continue to fascinate nevertheless.

A beautiful post and music, inspiring for this week’s prompt. Ever since I read this post last evening I have this song in my head….Me and My Shadow by Judy Garland
