I follow roads, looping along the river’s banks. Back roads leading to special places frequented by my camera’s favourite subjects: birds.

Which road beckons today?
Shall I wander where the Yellow Legs wade
or chase the elusive Kingfisher?
Every path an adventure
every sighting a gift
Which road beckons today?
March routes find robins
and the frisky antics of mergansers,
Summer, I’ll watch the Osprey nest
and catch the first flight – amazing
Which road beckons today?
Melancholy vanishes on faithful outings
to the river’s edge, where birds, like me
settle in for a refresher, ponder
the richness of her offerings.

This is beautiful, V.J., in word, image, and sentiment. Nature’s gifts are inspiring on so many different levels.
Wishing you more wonderful encounters on the road ahead.

And what makes this more fun, your words might resonate with the birds as well. Lovely thoughts as we jump to spring.

Ahhh, I love this poem, particularly the refrain, “Which road beckons today?” It’s a good mantra for greeting each new day.

Thanks Liz. It’s a funny little ritual I’ve created around birding.
