The Roads Most Taken

I follow roads, looping along the river’s banks. Back roads leading to special places frequented by my camera’s favourite subjects: birds.

Which road beckons today?
Shall I wander where the Yellow Legs wade
or chase the elusive Kingfisher?
Every path an adventure
every sighting a gift

Which road beckons today?
March routes find robins
and the frisky antics of mergansers,
Summer, I’ll watch the Osprey nest
and catch the first flight – amazing

Which road beckons today?
Melancholy vanishes on faithful outings
to the river’s edge, where birds, like me
settle in for a refresher, ponder
the richness of her offerings.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
