A Change of Venue

The biopsy was July 12th. My follow up appointment was not until September 4th. Having been through many of these, we concluded that there was no diagnosis that would disrupt travel, so went ahead and planned. We would fly out on the 7th. After seeing the specialist.

Turns out there was a concern with the test results. My body has been harbouring a fungal infection for the past year or more, as best as we could piece together (doc and I). Candida. It explains a lot. The treatment: mega doses of antifungal meds.

“What about travel?” I explained our plans.

“Start the treatment right away,” she responded kindly. “You’ll feel better.”

It has taken a few days – the journey here was rough – but the specialist is right.

The change of scenery is helping a lot too.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I’m glad the specialist figured out what was going on, though it must have been tough to hear. It’s great that you’re starting treatment and already feeling some improvement. I hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly and that the change of scenery continues to help. That view sounds lovely—wishing you a full and speedy recovery!
