Now that it’s dark early, putting the dogs out for their last ‘duty’ of the day, means taking extra precautions. We are always on the lookout for skunks, raccoons, possums, foxes, or even coyotes, as our backyard, unfenced, opens up to woods and farmland.
The other night, I opened the door, made my usual noises to warn off critters, and came face to face with this web and occupant. Although it’s not a good photo, I think you get the gist. The spider, quite large for our area, had decided to weave her web to the right of our backdoor. My first impulse was to get the broom, but then I stopped and grabbed the camera instead.
There was a time when the sight of a spider would fill me with terror. Now I talk myself out of it. She was, after all, quite magnificent – her colour and markings intricate. The next time I looked, the spider, rattled by my interest, had disappeared. Days later the web was just a few remaining strands.
I’m glad I didn’t expend all that energy letting fear take the upper hand.
Now if I could just be this practical minded about the vote next week.
I do relate, especially to the latter fear. I don’t bother the spiders but when one in the house gets really big, I escort them to the outdoors. Same with other bugs. Exceptions are mosquitoes and flies.

Lol. Yes mosquitoes and flies are beyond my patience limit too.

What a beautiful surprise. I try to leave spiders alone.
As to the vote…nervousness prevails. Let’s hope that common sense gets the upper hand. (K)

Thanks. Amen to that.

Kudos for overcoming your fears and taking an incredible photo. I am cautiously optimistic that right reason and good sense will prevail on Nov. 5. It’s still like waiting for the other shoe to drop, though.

Thanks Liz. The analysts seem to be supporting your point of view.

Wowza! Spectacular — and she must’ve been a speedy worker to spin a web so detailed on a back door! And thanks for the P.S. dear VJ. With you all the way and thinking good thoughts. 💕
