Travel Woes and Goes

Well we made it home, but our luggage continues to travel…apparently, it is lost in space.

My body is grateful to be back in the comfort of our own home. Travelling with health and mobility issues takes its toll. This trip proved more challenging than we imagined, and it was wonderful at the same time.

On the plus side, the hot air and ocean breezes were manna for the soul. We enjoyed the company – eight of us celebrating one couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. Dominican Republic is lovely, the food was good, and the people friendly.

Getting there and back was not so good. Asking for a wheelchair at the airport when booking flights is no guarantee. We met confusion, half-hearted efforts, and in one case, abandonment.

Never mind, we are home now, and the good memories will long outlive the bad. In the meantime, without our suitcases, I’ve no laundry that needs doing.

Anyone else find travelling a challenge?

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I’m glad you’re home safe, VJ. I don’t travel by plane anymore because it’s too much of a hassle. A long time ago, I flew from Florida to New Orleans, and they lost my luggage. I didn’t see it until 3 months later. I had to buy new clothes for the trip, which the airline never reimbursed me because they went bankrupt.

  2. I’m glad to hear about your trip to the Dominican Republic and now you’re back home, VJ. I agree that travel with health problems is a challenge. When my dad visited me after his knee replacement, my brother came with him and bought a folding wheelchair for him.
Enjoy the comfort of your own home and your bed. I missed my bed when I traveled.
