Carry On

For the past year and a half, my husband and I have committed to helping Ukrainians fleeing war. This has included opening our doors to house five families. We have been witness to unimaginable darkness and at the same time been deeply moved by the drive and resilience of those whose lives have touched ours.

I truly believe that words hold little sway, whereas lived experience is priceless. I wrote this poem in response to my own life losses and subsequent renewal. Now, Ric and I get to hold the torch for others. It is a humbling and rewarding position to hold.

No matter how dark life seems to be, carry on.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Thank you, VJ. Your purpose-driven life inspires me to be better. We can all be better. No doubt some of your days are pretty tough. Thank you again for doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.
