“It’s like COVID all over again,” my daughter remarks.
She’s right, of course, except I’m the only one isolating. After two rounds of bugs and an infection, I have chosen to stay away from others in an attempt to give my immune system a break. Besides, I have a procedure in ten days for which I need to be healthy. It has already been cancelled once.
It’s been an interesting experience – setting a boundary and sticking by it. Life seems to want to test me, with many social invitations, and people randomly dropping by. Even my husband forgets and suggests we go out for a meal. Everything feels like a petrie dish to me right now, and I am holding fast to my promise.
Oddly, I feel like this is a test and I’m passing. Setting boundaries has never been a strong point of mine. Too nice, too soft, too accommodating – I tend to talk myself into whatever pleases others. So not only am I protecting myself, I am also strengthening my character.
Could you do it? Self-isolate in favour of health and well-being?
It’s my granddaughter’s third birthday tomorrow and the party is on the weekend. Will I make it?
Yes I could as long as I could get out in nature – in our lock down it was ok when stay at home was over you were able to go out to exercise.

Hang in there! Self-isolation is my set-point. Too many days of goings on and I have to retreat to recover. Happy birthday to your granddaughter!

Good to know I’m not alone, Maggie

It wouldn’t be so hard for me since we don’t have family here. Many of my friends I communicate with on Zoom, so that seems a safe option!😀

Yes, Zoom is a great option.

I’m glad you are taking care of yourself. Sometimes others need to learn to accommodate to your needs. (K)

Good for you, VJ, for looking after your health! It can be hard to set boundaries, especially when it comes to missing out on things we care about, but sometimes it’s necessary. I hope you’re able to get a little extra rest in while you’re isolating. I’ll be praying you stay healthy for your procedure and that all goes well with it. Sending gentle hugs your way!
